MLC Engages with Farmers and Industry at the National Sheep Association Event 2024

On Tuesday 30th July, Meat & Livestock Classification (MLC) proudly participated in the National Sheep Association's flagship event at the Three Counties Showground in Malvern. This biennial one day gathering, the largest in two years, brought together farmers and industry professionals from across the UK to focus on the vitality and innovation within the British sheep sector.

Throughout the day, MLC engaged directly with attendees, discussing the crucial role of independent classification and monitoring of dressing specifications in ensuring fair returns for sheep producers. Licensed MLC classifiers provided live demonstrations, using visual aids to explain how carcases are assessed for conformation and fat scoring.

Beyond classification, the team addressed the impact of different approved dressing methods on carcase weight. MLC highlighted their role in monitoring dressing specifications to ensure compliance and prevent instances of over-trimming before weighing, which can result in monetary losses for farmers.

The event not only allowed MLC to connect with key stakeholders but also to reinforce our dedication to promoting transparency and high standards in the British sheep industry.
